President Dr. LaTonya Gillespie-Johnson

President Bio

Dr. Gillespie-Johnson began her career in dentistry in 2009. After earning her undergraduate degree in Biology from Voorhees College, she made her way to the Midwest to earn her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a native of College Park, Georgia, now wife, mother, and business owner, Dr. Gillespie-Johnson enthusiastically brings her passion for oral healthcare to her hometown. She is the Owner of Southern Pearl Dentistry a private Family Dental Practice in Hampton, Ga.

As a Voorhees College Board of Trustee, she coordinates community service events with Voorhees College Metro Atlanta Alumni Chapter, where she currently serves as the President, and the Voorhees College National Alumni Association, and her chapter. Lastly this illustrious woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. educating her community and changing one smile at a time.

Vice President Bio

Graduated from VC in 2009. Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Member if Alpha Phi Alpha, Veteran of the US Navy, Co-owner of the Sports & Entertainment podcast: The OneStopPodcast. Currently works as a QIC and Logistic specialist at Cardinal health. I write and create content with my wife that hopefully one day we can turn into a movie project or a TV series.

Hi, I’m Lekeshia. I graduated in 2009. A proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I am passionate. I am self-driven and hardworking. I am an overly ecstatic mom of 2. I am compassionate and empathetic and extremely perseverant. I am greatly appreciative and proud of all of my accolades, and what the future has to offer.

Derrick A. Smoot was born twins in 1983 at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. Smoot joined Army again and went on countless missions for several years until he was injured and Retired. He has two amazing children, Lady Essence Janai and Sir Elisson Julien Smoot. His daughter is 8 years old and his son is 5 years old. Since his retirement he has taken closer attention to his alma mater and is working for Truth and Change. 

Since his retirement he has taken closer attention to his alma mater and is working for Truth and Change. He has vowed to work to make Voorhees College; “The Ivy League” of HBCU’s. He currently is the Head of HelpingHandSS, which is a program that he loves and dedicate all his time to when he is not in pain or in the hospital. This program gives food, water, clothes, blankets and information to get each individual out of their homelessness one at a time.

My name is William Simmons. I am from Philadelphia, PA. Graduated from VC in 2009. Married with 2 children, living in a DC suburbs. I like long walks in the park. One thing I love is traveling, it brings me joy to see how others live. Proud man of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

Secretary Nakeya Brown

With an overall passion for empowering, supporting, educating, and acquiring new skills, my name is Nakeya Brown. I have received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the illustrious Voorhees College in 2010 and my Master of Science degree in Cyber Security from Liberty University in 2019. A quote that best illustrates my inclination originated from Barack Obama’s speech that stated,

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”

I am approaching my tenth year as a store manager for a multinational painting and industrial coatings establishment in Augusta, Georgia. As an individual that has always valued education, diversity, and inclusion efforts; I am proud to be amongst the members of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Voorhees College Atlanta Metro Alumni Chapter, and Brown Girls in Tech. With a strong love of traveling and exploring new cultures and places, I aspire to begin my second career in the cyber security arena and tour the world.

VCNAA President Bio

 

After graduating from Voorhees College with a Degree in Elementary Education, Linda Flowers McCullough was employed by the Richmond County Board of Education in 1977. She has worked as an educator in the Atlanta Public School System and retried after thirty-five years of service McCullough has obtained many degrees.

 

Although, Flowers-McCullough has retired she continues with APS as a Substitute Teacher which she truly enjoys. Currently her work is focused in the field of Special Education to increase students’ progress.

 

McCullough has participated with many Non-Profit Originations and has been the President of the Metro Atlanta Alumni Chapter for Voorhees College for the past five years. In addition, she served as Assistance Secretary of Voorhees College National Alumni Association and has been the Co-chair of the 2019 VCNAA National Convention. Now she’s the president elected of Voorhees College National Alumni Association. She is a Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and participates on many other Civil Boards.

 

My goal in life is to be a true servant to others in any way necessary to make this world a better place to live.
